"Chief Forst," Petra began, knocking gently on the doorframe of the office.
Ophelia, blueblack hair tied back in a neat and professional bun, looked up at her Deputy from the report she was reading. "Petra? May I help you?"
The Deputy stepped crisply into the room, and tucked a wing of ebony hair behind her ear before clasping her hands behind her back. "There is a visitor here for you, Chief."
For a moment, the Police Chief peered at her second in command. Was that a little grin gracing those lips? She blinked, and the expression was gone as quickly as it might have appeared. "Really?" A quick tap over her keyboard and then she glanced back to the other woman. "I am not scheduled for any meetings, who is it?"
"Ophelia, ma'am, I think it would be best if you simply came to meet your visitor."
Were it anyone else in the House, the vague tingles of unease running down Ophelia Frost's back would have been full on alerts, but this was Petra. The petite Russian woman was dedicated, her iron will often keeping the younger recruits in line; no easy task in a blended force of Police, Fire and Emergency medical crews.
Ophelia stood and circled her desk, all Elizabethan height and proud regal grace, only marred by her recent habit of spinning her wedding band, which she began doing again as her subordinate preceded her from the office.
Petra gave the simple gold band a glance, grateful again that her spouse was always home when she returned, then fell in beside the taller woman as they made their way towards the main entrance. "He is due to return from tour of duty, correct? Soon?"
"If his tour is not extended, again. Yes," the Chief replied, realizing what she was doing and dropping her hands. For a moment she could have sworn she saw Petra hide that same little ghost of a smile. The previous tingle came back with a vengeance.
Ophelia glanced up when she heard a chuckle. Most of the crews were out by the lobby. Fernado had emerged from down in the garages with the fire rigs, and more astoundingly, had managed to drag his wife from her lair. Reba miraculously looked willing to be away from the 911 consoles, even if she still had the headset on. The giant teddy bear of a man held an arm around her, and was smirking like he knew something. As he was an awful liar, Forst glanced around nervously.
One of the detectives, Johanna, was groaning in the general direction of the SWAT team "Twins," though not twins by any stretch of the imagination. Tommy, the Mediterranean prankster was trotting back from the evidence lockers with one of the company cameras. Meanwhile, Sean, the Irish curmudgeon was valiantly trying to convince one of the paramedics that he did not care what was going on.
"Come on, Sean-y boy. How often do you get to see something like this?" the redheaded medic teased.
Johanna grumbled and tugged the woman close. "Erin, Tommy's got enough enthusiasm for the both of 'em. Don't encourage."
Erin purred, "...but this is fun. And at someone else's expense, for once."
Following out her subordinate and hearing little bits of conversation, Ophelia was concerned, and very confused. "Petra, I must insist, what is…" She froze when a familiar voice said her name.
"Ophelia."
Her heart skipped a beat. There, by the door, still in his fatigues with his duffle by his feet, stood her husband. "Ethan- Ethan!" The Chief raced to him, and he scooped her into his arms, twirling her around in the air. For a moment, nothing else existed. Ophelia beamed, arms around his neck and looking down at her beloved husband. He slowed the spin and lowered her back to the ground. "Why didn't you tell me you great lunk?"
The Army Captain chuckled, kissing her brow as she nuzzled up against his shoulder. "I didn't know till the last minute. By then, I figured a surprise was better than another false alarm."
"We couldn't have standed her if she got hopes crashed again!" Johanna snipped.
Everyone's laughter brought Ophelia back to the world beyond Ethan, she blushed furiously and burrowed more against the broad chest. He growled softly, turning his wife in a few slow dance moves to let her hide behind him a moment. "I couldn't wait one more hour to see you, honey."
Laughing quietly, Ophelia squeezed his waist. "Now you're just showing off."
Ethan smirked, petting the soft skin at the back of his wife's neck. "It's either that, or just kiss you senseless in front of all these people."
Her blue eyes flared, but Ophelia simply nudged closer to the familiar and much missed lines of his body. She reached up and traced the patch with U.S. Army stitched over his heart, then the opposite one with their name. "Well, not just yet. Let me grab the keys from my office." After a moment more lost in her husband's embrace, the Chief turned back to her crews. "Alright, all of you. Show is over, thank you." Ethan pressed up against her back, winding his arms around her waist. The woman sighed, half at him, and half at the rest of the building still laughing and whistling. "Get back to work. Please?"
The sea of humanity parted, grudgingly, before Petra's sterner countenance.
Ophelia let Ethan hold his arm around her waist and guided him through the slalom of her subordinates. Her husband seemed to be drinking in the attention and obvious dedication that they all showed his spouse.
Jamie, the bomb squad tech was saying that if he'd known, he could have prepared something a little more festive to mark the occasion. Thankfully the chorused snap of "NO!" from both Erin and Jo put a stop to that.
Teddy was chuckling quietly at Bowser, his favorite canine partner. The big great Rottweiler sat at sharp attention, however, his hind quarters were wriggling slightly in hope that he would be released to gleefully pounce the newcomer. Shirleene leaned down and scuffled at black ears, Teddy nickered to his petite EMT girlfriend and she glared playfully back.
The Chief was dimly aware of the intermittent flash of a camera, and as she urged her man into her office she spared a glance for her SIC. Petra nodded and went to pry the camera from Tommy's grip.
Ethan thumped the door closed with his boot, locking it and dropping his nearly forgotten duffle with a thump. His wife turned and melted into his chest as he lay feather kisses down her forehead and cheek, finally capturing her lips.
"You're home," Ophelia murmured as she gasped for air. She clutched at broad shoulders, trying to reimprint him on her body.
He tightened his arms around her waist, petting the small of her back. "Say it again, Ophelia," Ethan rasped against her lips, "say it again."
Pulling back to look into his eyes, Ophelia framed her husband's jaw in her palms. "You. Are. Home," she confirmed, speaking low and clear. He went willingly when she guided him to rest his head against her shoulder, crushing her to his body and inhaling her delicate perfume. "And I'm not letting you go anytime soon," she whispered into the short-cropped sandy brown hair.
"Don't intend to let you," Ethan chuckled back, nibbling at her pulsepoint and feeling her heartbeat speed up.
Ophelia pulled a hand free and reached towards her desk. "Come now," she purred, "Let me get my keys and we can get back to the house."
Her spouse straightened and smirked, hitting her with a non-sequitor. "So your last letter said you've been inked in my honor?"
Blue eyes blinked in confusion, "Yes, my love..."
Ethan shifted against her hips, letting his wife feel his desire. "Do you have any idea how much agony redeployment processing was? To Kuwait, four days, then the flight here?"
"Really?" she smirked, catching on to his point, as it were.
"Couldn't stop wondering where, my lady," the Army Captain growled.
A smile spread across her lips and elegant hands reached up to pull her hair down from its bun, knowing it drove him crazy. "There was a reason I kept that a secret." Perhaps that it was that the tattoo had been a spontaneous decision with Johanna, done during a low moment of missing her husband. At first she thought he would disapprove, but he certainly seemed to be interested now.
Strong hands slowly started undoing the buttons on Ophelia's shirt, he leaned down, gracing each inch of exposed skin with a kiss. "Am I getting closer?" he whispered.
"Are… you- ?" Ophelia stuttered a moment, her mind going fuzzy. She traced the back of his neck and swallowed, catching up to his line of thought. "Yes, you're getting warmer."
Ethan grinned devilishly, there was a moment that he thought he could see his wife and not take her then and there. Now that she was back in his arms, he needed to hold her, touch her, and prove to his mind and body that she was real. Pulling her body tightly against his, the Captain hoisted Ophelia to sit on the edge of her desk. Gently, he pushed his wife down to lay back and shoved the neat stacks of paper out of her way. He kissed down her belly, hands mapping the lean muscles of her abdomen. "How about now?"
"Very, very warm," the Chief answered, cradling the broad shoulders and spearing her fingers through his hair.
He made short work of her belt and the fly of her workpants. Light blue eyes seemed to flash when they lighted on the slip of red lace she wore. Her bra matched, looking like it was struggling to restrain her breasts as his wife breathed heavily. He loved her in red; their private joke was that it was his color.
Ophelia tried to keep her head, squirming slightly when her pants were tugged from her hips. "Ethan-" she stuttered as he caressed her thighs, kissing down her legs. "Ethan, getting colder…"
"Oh really?" Ethan replied; his wife had the most shapely, long, beautiful legs. Getting colder was the last way to describe him; he was stiff and almost sore. He crouched enough to pull his love's shoes from her feet and discard her pants, growling possessively
"Y-yes, cold, honey," the Chief spluttered, coherent thought skittering away like startled fish.
The soldier chuckled quietly, happily working his way back up his wife's calves. "Just being thorough," he muttered between kisses to the soft skin of her inner thighs.
She could not resist parting her legs more for her husband, despite the niggling reminder of crinkling papers beneath her shoulders. Ethan nudged his cheek against her leg and smirked up at Ophelia, quirking an eyebrow that the red lace was already dark with moisture. Brushing a thumb against her, the Chief nearly squirmed away from the contact. "Ethan… now you're getting distracted."
The replying grin simply made her shiver, heat pooling low in her belly. "Alright," Ethan growled, playing at looking again for the tattoo. Pulling her panties just below the rise of her hipbone revealed a little camouflage-colored heart with a red numeral "1" in it. "Forst, first," he muttered affectionately, "Thank you, my lady." He thumbed over the inked skin.
"I missed you," Ophelia confessed, heartfelt. "My number one."
The Captain stood, leaning over his wife to claim a soft grateful kiss. "I missed you, too." Strong fingers mapped back across familiar terrain, sliding the lace aside. "And you're ready for me, love."
Her cheeks burned, but there was no denying it. "Was ready for you to be back since the moment you left," she whispered.
A rough calloused thumb slipped against her, gently rubbing between folds. "Don't make me wait anymore," Ethan pleaded low, worshipping her body with his hands.
Ophelia mewled, arching into her husband's touch despite her eyes flicking to the door. Biting her lip, she reached down and unzipped his fly, tenderly freeing and rubbing at Ethan's hardened flesh. "You promise my door is locked?"
The soldier pumped his cock in her hand, nibbling at her jaw and whispering in an ear, "Yes. Baby, to be inside you again, I'd promise anything."
She held her breath, tugging him close. Their movements were familiar, sliding together with old practiced ease. Ethan gentled his lust and eased himself into position, Ophelia guiding him with sure fingers. She nodded and looped one leg around his waist, giving him the nod to press forward; it was all the Captain could do not to drive hard and fast the moment he felt her trembling muscles grip at his cock.
Moaning quietly, or at least attempting to keep quiet, Ophelia arched up until her husband's hips were flush against her own. They both went still, trying to draw out the moment just a bit longer. Ethan finally did cave first, rocking back to drive himself back in. The Chief simply gave one of her demure little smiles, tightening her leg around him and encouraging a faster pace.
Ethan quickly found himself with hands braced over his wife's shoulders pounding hard into her slick heat. "Missed you, love you, so much," he grunted, long months of want tightening to a vice grip low in his belly.
"I know, you too, E-ethan…" Ophelia replied, nuzzling desperately at his cheek, gasping in time with his rapid thrusts. The slow winding tension spread between her thighs, "Almost, Ethan I-" she apologized, blue eyes wide and glossy.
The Army man chuckled, a quickie was fine with him. They were still in his wife's office and they had all the time they wanted to remap each other's bodies back home. "Come now, my lady," he encouraged, twisting his hips in that way that always drove her over the edge.
She threw her head back, and Ethan claimed her lips in a bruising kiss, swallowing the scream as she climaxed. A few more thrusts and he groaned, spilling into her fluttering heat. The Captain let his head fall to Ophelia's chest; she made a soft sound and pet his head and neck.
"Can't…" he muttered cheekily between pants "have you embarrass yourself in front of the whole crew."
After a few moments to catch her breath, the Chief murmured back. "Mine are the best, I think they can guess what we're up to."
"No reason to confirm it, though."
Slumping back against her desk, Ophelia could only laugh. "I love you, Ethan." Moving her hand to cup the side of his face, her thumb traced his cheekbone. "Welcome home."
He smirked, tipping down to kiss above her heart, "Home's here, honey."
The woman smiled, propping up on an elbow and letting her husband help her rebutton her shirt. "Darling, if we can get presentable and back to the house, I am all yours."
Ethan grinned, his eyes flashing hungrily, "A promise, my lady."
"As you wish," she purred, getting his uniform back in order and looking pointedly at her pants. The Army Captain chuckled and picked them up, handing the clothes back to his wife. As she nudged him back with her foot, Ophelia could not help shaking her head at her spouse. She almost could not believe that they had just had sex in her office in the middle of the day. Almost. Ethan could convince her of anything, it seemed. Sliding back into her pants and hunting after her shoes, the Police Chief finally got the wayward keys. "Come now," she ordered fondly, grabbing her bag and gesturing at his duffle, "get moving…" before they broke down and jumped each other again in a semi-public place.
He growled possessively and slung the bag over a shoulder. Offering his arm to his wife, Ethan waited while she tied the mess of blue-black hair back into its bun.
Tossing her head and getting herself back in order, Ophelia took his elbow. "My lord," she purred fondly, "I beg that you get us to the car." She had to be blushing, there had to be signs, and her crew all had such sharp eyes. All the Chief was hoping for was making a hasty escape.
With a slight nod and a brief, soothing kiss to her temple, Ethan paced to the door and clicked the lock. "Master of all she surveys, my lady," he reminded her affectionately.
Ophelia made a soft murmur of assent, letting her husband lead her out then turning to lock the office behind her. As they passed Petra, the Chief met that same little ghost of a smile. "Thank you," she said softly, "I will see you tomorrow."
Petra murmured a "You are welcome," and Ethan tipped his head to the Deputy in a salute. Then he focused on getting his wife home.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The next day, after a night and early morning of getting reacquainted with her love, Ophelia made her way into work. It had never been so hard to leave her bed, and the shower, and the house. She sighed, knowing that her day was very, very likely to drag on. Parking the car, the Chief swiped through the entrance and walked into the House. Most of the night shift crews were preparing to leave, or if they lived on site, had already headed up to the crew quarters.
Things had not yet begun to pick up in the office, so Chief Forst was able to weave through the desks with a minimum of distractions to reach her office. She pulled her keys from her bag and unlocked the door. As she flipped on the lights, her eyes caught something out of the ordinary. The papers were still left in disarray on her desk, that in itself was unusual, but there was something else on her desk.
Ophelia circled the office and sat down, taking the item from the desktop and inspecting it. Her door had been locked, which meant either someone finagled the spare key out of Petra, or someone had been practicing their lock picking again. She sighed, the note on the item giving away the perpetrator, it was scrawled in Tommy's erratic hand. It seemed that he would need another reminder of the rules, but the Chief could not quite find it in her to bring down the law on him. After all the emotions of the last day, she quietly bit her knuckle to ground herself. Taking the moment to boot up her computer she simply drew a deep breath, shook her head and placed the gift on the corner of her desk.
It was a picture, in a plain silver frame. In the background of the photo, most of the members of the House could be seen, smiling happily. The center of the picture was Ophelia, held up in her husband's arms and beaming down at him as he spun her around.
The note, brimming with cheek, simply said "Good to know you can smile like that, boss."
