WTF Japan?

Ok, first, my sister is currently working for the Navy (in the "I'm a physical therapist and stretch kids till they cry" way, not the "I wear a uniform and carry a gun" way) over in Okinawa.  She reports back with a lot of the cultural strangeness of being stationed in a foreign nation.  And as much as I love much of Japanese culture, there are a lot of times when there are utter moments of "WTF Japan?" 

Things like, swan diving off the road, no matter the lane or traffic conditions to stop and take a cell phone call.  Or the fact that she can buy a practically 1 liter can of soda, but only a dixie cup size container of ice cream.  That the shop people talk to her non-stop in Japanese when the extent of her language abilities is obviously nothing more than "hai" so she is nodding along with no clue what they are saying.  Let alone the times she is perplexed by things like plumbing being different.

I still think she needs to turn her LJ into "WFT Japan, the adventures of an American Abroad" and record all this fun.

Anyway. 

So I follow Siebertron on my LJ.  Since it is an RSS feed, they are notorious for embedding tons of huge pictures, but there is no LJ cut.  Fine.  I am aware of this, that's not the gripe.  I scroll, scroll, scrollscrollscrollscrollscrollscroll sometimes.  It's fine, it's worth it for some of the updates.  ie. the one that informed me when TF3 was filming just down the street and I could go stalk Prime, Ratchet and Ironhide...  

But today?  My scrolly-ness was halted.  By this.



And I stared. 

Ok, so.  I know that the "random English text" is big in, well, not just Japan, but a lot of Asian countries.  But.  Ummm.  WTF JAPAN? o.0

Bay started tentacle-rapist!Soundwave, and now that is suddenly retconned back to G1?  

What the fuck is going on here?

Japanese culture is. . .extremely different than our's to say the same. From an anthropological stand point, I don't think there is a culture with so many contradictions. Some good, some bad, like any other culture, just. . . so many.

I have the "Talking at your a million miles per hour," happen so many times at my different dance functions. Even after years and years of this, I'm still left staring like a deer in the headlights only to utter, "Nani?" XD
